Guilt-free calcium
Instead of reaching for an 8-ounce glass of 2-percent milk, try drinking an 8-ounce glass of fat-free milk.
Milk is extremely high in fat. A cup of whole milk is 49 percent fat. Reduced-fat (2 percent) milk isn’t much better; it contains 34 percent fat. Most of this fat is saturated, the kind that clogs your arteries. A cup of low-fat (1 percent) milk gets only 23 percent of its calories from fat. Skim milk (also called nonfat or fat-free) is the ultimate choice, with virtually no fat. You can also substitute nonfat dry milk when making desserts, gravy, or sauces to lower the fat content.
Savings: 50 calories
